| If something as big as the monster in the film landed on Earth, it wouldn't last very long. The reason nothing on Earth exceeds the size of modern-day whales or now-extinct sauropod dinosaurs (both at their largest rarely exceeding 100 feet) is the force of Earth's gravity. Redwoods partly overcome this and grow to prodigious heights, but the fact that they're completely cessile is a major contributing factor there. The monster would have to be native to a planet with much lower gravity than Earth's to be able to grow to that size. Consequently it would be accustomed only to overcoming the gravity of such a planet. Once he landed on Earth, his weight, magnified many times, would far exceed anything he's used to and render him immobile. Death from inability to expand and contract the chest for breathing would be fairly quick. Thus, a monster like what we see in the movie would be unable to rampage through New York City as it does in the movie. Merry Christmas. | |
